Xbow Scale Model

At SP1 we love making cool models! Most projects we cant show to clients and as such we wanted to make an inspirational 1/4 scale model for the new boardroom for when we reopened in 2022. As we had a 2008 KTM Xbow to hand we wanted to utilise as many of our in house skills to scan, cad model and rebuild as many parts as possible. We started with the tub and hoods scanning and first CNC Milling from BB600 board in a few parts to create the main base. From here we tested out out a variety of our in house Stratsys F370 FDM and Form labs 3 and 3L Resin printers to create the wheels and all the small components! After a few tests in resin prints we also milled some panels in ABS to get a more accurate build on a few pieces! 3D printing is a fantastic tool but it has its drawbacks in dimensional accuracy and issues with warping!

As the project was done outside of core project work it became a labour of love and took a fair bit longer than expected but the results are fantastic! Add the finale where we added a miniature smoke machine inside the exhaust system to finish it off!

The model now serves as a great example of the initial where could you take your post it note sketch to prior to going full scale!
